VKontakte (or, simply VK) is the largest European online social media and social networking service. As of January 2017, VK had at least 410 million accounts.

In VK we can track metrics for PROFILES and COMMUNITIES.

PROFILES in VK are very similar to Facebook profiles. A profile can have Friends (people who you accepted as friends) and Visitors (people who are not your friends but who follow your profile).

COMMUNITIES can be of the following types:

  • Group - Suitable for discussions and exchanging ideas
  • Public page - Perfect for distributing news and information
  • Event - Convenient for organizing concerts and parties

Communities can have Members (people who apply for and get membership in a group) and Visitors (people who occasionally visit and read group's content).

We recommend breaking down your VKontakte (VK) metrics into the following areas:

  • Online account popularity and user feedback
  • Audience insights - age, gender, location
  • VK content reach
  • User engagement metrics
  • Competition monitoring

VK allows you to compare, benchmark your popularity against that of your competition. This is especially useful if you are managing an account for your company or client.
Notes
To connect to VK use your standard login. Select VKontakte Profile or Community to collect data for.

Your latest VK posts and engagement statistics per post.
Description
We use Engagement to rank your VKontakte content. Latest Posts widget sorts posts by time of creation. Most recent posts are at the top.

Post Engagement is calculated using the sum of weighted user actions. We applied different weightings to actions. Because comments, for example, are more valuable than Likes.

Post Engagement = (Likes x 1 + Reposts x 10 + Comments x 20)
Tips

Description
Your posts are ranked by Engagement. Most engaging posts are shown at the top. If you want to sort your posts by date (latest posts at the top), select different sorting or pick Latest Posts widget.

Description
We graph over time your community Reach and subscribtion.

Reach is the number of people who received impressions of a post. Reach might be less than impressions since one person can see multiple impressions. For example, if a person sees a Page update in News Feed and then sees that same update when a friend shares it that would represent a reach count of one.
Tips
Watch out for your Reach and keep an eye on Subs and Unsubs. If community Reach goes up but number of Unsubs increases, it means you are showing your content to more people, but your current subscribers are leaving you. Identify these moment, find content that causes Unsubs and work on its Relevance.

ENGAGEMENT

Number of Likes, Comments and Reposts on your VKontakte content over time.
Description
VK calculates Engagement using sums of user actions.

Engagement Rate for your community posts.
Description
Engagement shows how much people interact with the content. Factors that influence engagement include users’ comments, shares, likes, and more. This is an important metric to keep an eye on because higher engagement is a sign of great content.

Engagement = Shares + Likes + Comments

Engagement Rate is a metric that is used heavily in analyzing social media. Because the engagement rate is calculated relative to the number of followers a company has on social media (or number of views), the rate for both small and large companies can be compared equally.

Description
This widget tracks Daily Reach for subscribers of your Community. Non-subscribed visitors are not counted.

Number of VKontakte group page impressions in the last period.
Description
Impressions is the number of times a post is displayed. People may see multiple impressions of the same post. For example, if someone sees a Page update in News Feed and then sees that same update when a friend shares it that would count as 2 impressions.

Community growth rate tracked over time.
Description
Community growth rate is the rate of subscribers growth relative to the total size of your community.

Daily Growth Rate = New Subscribers Per Day / Total Number of Subscribers
Tips
If you are only starting with VK, your initial community size will be small and it will be practically multiplying initially. Expect Growth Rate to be very high.

Once your community "matures", the increase of subscribers relevant to community size will be less pronounced - this is normal.

This metric is more useful for older communities. Once you reach that stage, keep an eye on Growth rate, make sure it stays constant. If it drops, it means something is wrong. Check Relevance of your content. The best way to view it is to analyze your Audience - age, gender, location. Octoboard provide these metrics too.
