Can I track my Facebook Ads performance in real-time?
There is a number of metrics that can be viewed together on a daily basis as part of a dashboard. Facebook makes it easy to switch between views for Ad Campaign, Individual Ads or full Facebook Ads Account. We have grouped the following statistics for live view display and real-time tracking: IMPRESSIONS, CLICKS, and CLICK-THROUGH RATE.

OVERVIEW

Ad Impressions and Clicks over time.
Description
Impressions is the number of times your ads have been displayed to your audience.

Clicks is the number of times Facebook users clicked on your Facebook Ads.

Click-Through Rate (CTR) is the ratio of ad clicks relative to Impressions

CTR = Total Ad Clicks % Impressions

USE THIS METRIC
How often are my ads displayed, to how many people and how frequently?
REACH is a great metric. It tells you how many people are shown (reached by) your content (or ads). Not all networks report user counts. Instead, they report counts of views or IMPRESSIONS. Use REACH to evaluate and fine-tune definitions of your ad campaigns. It could be useful to correlated your REACH with user ACTIONS (such as clicks). If your content REACH grows but ACTION RATE declines this could be an indication of low content relevance. To improve relevance you should consider increasing Ad quality and/or fine-tune your Ad Campaign target audience settings.

Ad Reach tracked over time.
Description
Reach gives you a measure of how many people were exposed to your message during an ad campaign. People may not always click on your ads, but they may be more likely to engage with your business when they see your message.

Your reach can be affected by your bid, budget and audience targeting.

IMPRESSIONS

Number of times your ads have been displayed to your audience.
Description
Shows ad impressions over time. The number of times an ad was viewed. With a few exceptions, an impression is counted each time an ad can be viewed when it enters a person's screen on Facebook.

Do people react to my Facebook Ads?
It is a good idea to track Ad impressions over time and correlated it with actions taken by users. These actions could be likes, app installs, conversions and others. Increasing ACTION RATE and CLICK RATE is always a good thing. If these metrics degrade, it could be an indication of poor Ad quality or low Relevance. One way to fix that would be to fine-tune your Ad Campaign target audience settings.

Description
Actions is the sum of page likes, app installs, conversions and others - taken by Facebook users after they have seen your ads.

Action Rate is the rate of Actions relative to total number of Facebook Ad Impressions

Description
Shows number of actions taken by your audience after they have seen your ad. Actions include Page likes, app installs, conversions, event responses and more. For example, 2 Page likes and 2 comments would be counted as 4 actions

How much am I paying for Facebook Ads? Is it worth it?
Tracking cost of Ads over time is easy. Facebook provides such metrics as COST PER MILLE, COST PER CLICK and COST PER ACTION (explained below). Understanding if you are getting return on your Facebook Ad investment is a little more complicated. It is a good idea to correlate COST PER CLICK with dollar value of one Ad Click. Ad Click Dollar value can be calculated from CONVERSION RATE (percentage of site visits from Facebook that lead to conversion, such as product purchase) and Revenue that comes from conversions. CONVERSION RATES are available from Web Analytics applications such as Google Analytics that Octoboard will also track for you.

Cost per 1000 impressions over time (CPM).
Description
Tells you how much it costs you to display 1000 ad impressions (also called Cost Per Thousand or Cost Per Mille or CPM).

Online advertisers typically look at CPM as a performance measurement for the cost-efficiency and value of an ad campaign.
Tips
On Facebook, Reach can be a more insightful metric than impressions, because it gives you a measure of how many people were exposed to your message and how efficiently you reached them. It's affected by how well your bid performed in the ad auction, your budget and the effectiveness of your audience targeting.

Cost per Click (CPC) tracked over time.
Description
Cost per Click (CPC) tells you how much you per Facebook Ad click. CPC shows how much, on average, each link click costs you. CPC is a metric used in the online advertising industry for benchmarking ad efficiency and performance.

The metric is calculated as the total amount spent divided by link clicks.

CPC = Facebook Ads Spend / Ad Clicks

Description

Displays latest ads ranked by Relevance Score (RS). Relevance score is a number from 1 (low) to 10 (high) provided by Facebook that suggests how well the ad is expected to resonate with your audience.
